A Hand Shower, also known as a handheld showerhead, is a versatile bathroom fixture designed to provide users with greater control and convenience over their showering experience. Unlike a fixed showerhead, a hand shower can be easily moved and directed, making it highly functional for various needs.

Comfort and Convenience
One of the major advantages of using hand shower in bathroom is the added comfort and convenience it provides. Handheld showers are better than overhead shower as they allows you to customize the direction and flow of water, making it easier to reach difficult-to-clean areas. Whether you're rinsing off the shampoo from your hair, cleaning hard-to-reach areas of your body, or washing your pets, a hand shower allows for easy movement and control. With hand showers, you can adjust the water flow and choose from various spray patterns to enhance your showering experience.
Easy Cleaning
One of the significant advantages of a hand shower for baths is its ease of cleaning. The detachable head makes cleaning the shower enclosure, tub, or any other hard-to-reach areas simple. You can effortlessly rinse away soap foam and prevent the buildup of mineral deposits. Hand showers require less maintenance, ensuring the longevity of your investment.
Water Efficiency
Hand showers are designed to be water-efficient, helping you conserve water and reduce your utility bills. Many models feature flow restrictors or aerators that limit water usage without compromising performance.
Enhanced Bathing Experience
A hand held shower head elevates your bathing experience by offering a spa-like feel in the comfort of your own home. Whether you prefer a gentle rainfall effect or a pulsating massage, Hand showers provide multiple spray patterns to suit your mood and preferences.
Easy Installation
A handheld shower head can be easily installed by a professional plumber or by anyone experienced in plumbing fittings. They can be used as an addition to a conventional showerhead or as a replacement for an older model. Hand showers may look expensive, but they are a cheaper addition that can easily enhance your showering experience and the overall aesthetic of your bathroom.
Unique Features
Hand shower faucets come in various designs and finishes to meet your individual preferences. Handheld shower heads come with a detachable flexible hose, which allows you to easily switch between a higher or lower water flow rate.
Types of Hand Shower

Standard Fixed Shower Head
This is by far the most common type of shower head and is what you think of when you summon up an image of a shower head. The neck of the shower head doesn’t move it stays fixed and attached to the wall at all times. Usually, the shower head itself is able to rotate up and down and side to side slightly but not much. In terms of installation, fixed shower heads are pretty easy because most bathrooms are already set up for a fixed shower head. You just have to take off your old head and put on your new one.
Handheld Shower Head
Once again, the name is pretty self-explanatory, handheld shower heads are attached to the waterline with a hose which allows you to take them off of their mount and move them around. The handheld shower head is a great option if you have mobility issues or need to sit down while you shower. It allows you to move the shower head around to get it where you need it to be.
Dual Shower Head
A dual shower head is one of those things that gives you the best of both worlds. It has a fixed head and a handheld head which gives you the versatility of a handheld but also the stability of a fixed head. This shower head is also great if you have mobility issues or need to sit down while you shower since you can move one head while still having a regular shower head.
Filtered Shower Head
A filtered shower head is exactly what it sounds like. This showerhead is designed to have a filter built into it so that it filters your water as it comes out of the head.
Determine Your Needs
Before you start looking for a hand shower, it’s important to determine your specific needs and preferences. Do you want a fixed or handheld option? What is your budget? Answering these questions will help you narrow down your options and find the best hand shower for you in the long run.
Consider Water Pressure and Flow Rate
Water pressure and flow rate are important factors to consider when choosing a hand shower. The water pressure determines how strong the water will flow, while the flow rate measures the amount of water that flows through the shower head per minute. Hand showers typically have a flow rate of about 9.5 litres per minute (LPM), but some models have higher or lower flow rates. If you have low water pressure in your home, look for a hand shower that is designed for low pressure.
Choose the Right Type of Shower Head
There are two main types of shower heads: fixed and handheld. Fixed shower heads are mounted to the wall and provide a steady stream of water. Handheld shower heads are attached to a flexible hose, which makes them more versatile and easier to use. If you want more control over your shower experience, a handheld shower head is the way to go.
Consider the Water Supply
Before you buy a hand shower, make sure to check the water supply in your bathroom or toilet. If you have a low water pressure, you may need to install a pressure booster pump or a low-flow shower head to improve the water pressure.
Look For Silicone Nozzles
Silicone nozzles are a great cost saving feature to look for in a hand shower. They are easy to clean and prevent hard water buildup, which can affect the water flow and pressure over time.
Look For Quality Materials
The materials used to make the hand shower are important to consider as well. Look for models made from high-quality materials such as chrome or stainless steel, which are durable and resistant to rust and corrosion. Avoid plastic models, as they are more likely to break or wear out over time.
How to Install Hand Shower
Remove the old Shower Head
You can attempt to remove it by hand, but if it's been on there for a while you might need to step it up to the Adjustable Wrench or Pliers. To protect the finish, if you're re-gifting, wrap the cloth around the fitting and grab hold with the Wrench/Pliers.
Wrap Thread Seal Tape around the Shower Arm
Starting at the bottom of the Shower Arm, apply the Thread Seal Tape clockwise to ensure that it doesn't unwind when you're screwing the Shower Head onto the Shower Arm. Tightly wrap the thread seal tape 3-4 times moving up to the top of the Shower Arm. Press the Thread Seal Tape firmly to the Shower Arm to make sure it adheres properly.
Use the Adjustable Wrench or Pliers For Extra Tightening
ome Shower Heads have plastic fittings which must be hand tightened only and others have brass fittings with little notches meant for tightening with a Wrench or Pliers. Verify which you have and install accordingly. You don't want to over do it with the plastic fittings, as they'll split and then you'll be out a new Shower Head.
How to Maintain Hand Shower
Remove the shower head from the hose. Be careful not to lose the rubber washer when you do, as this stops water from leaking at the joint.
Put the shower head in a bucket or plastic container and cover it with white vinegar.
Leave it to soak in the vinegar for at least 30 minutes, preferably around an hour. Don’t leave brass shower heads in vinegar for longer than 30 minutes.
Take the shower head out of the vinegar and rinse it with water.
Remove any remaining limescale with an old toothbrush, paying particular attention to the nozzle.
Rinse again with water and polish with a soft cloth.
Reattach the hose and turn on the shower to flush out any remaining limescale.
